After the repeal of the Stamp Act, Parliment did not want the colonists to think that they had control of themselves. In order to try to establish some control over the colonies, Parliment put the Declaratory Act in order, which stated that Britain could tax the colonies any time that they wanted, on anything. In response to this, the colonists protested and began the nonimportation movement.
